Warm December
This December has been incredibly warm in the northeast. All of the cities in the northeast have been very warm and very low and the amount of snowfall in December. As its been so wet with rain and warm so far there is a chance of a little snow tonight into Friday morning. snow fall will be a bout 3-5 inches in parts of northern Massachusetts. However in Connecticut we are only expecting just rain to a coating to maybe a inch or 2 in the hills of NW c.t The Christmas storm potential is snow way over as it will miss the northeast and go out to sea. This is disappointing to many who were dreaming of a white Christmas in the north east. In the west its a totally different story. they have a lot of snow and very cold temperatures. last week the blizzard hit all the way to northern Texas and some areas got up to 14 inches of snow. I love the cold and i am sick of this warm weather in the northeast. Bring on the cold! Hopefully it will snow soon so i can go skiing! Merry Christmas everyone!

Last chance of snow
Here in Connecticut i have been excited about the possible Christmas storm i have been reading and hearing about. I got all excited just to be disappointing to hear that its going out the sea and we are going to get a total miss! However there is a chance that i will get a white Christmas this year in New Hartford C.T because of the next system. after today's warm day with rain its suppose to be UNseasonably warm as we could get to the 50s tomorrow as the first day of winter! Winter comes dec 22 at 12:30am. However it could snow a little in northern c.t Friday morning and there could be a coating to 3 inches. Maybe even 4 in the hills. If one inch was to stay by Christmas we would have a white Christmas! LET IT SNOW!

Green Christmas
I personalty love snow and especially during the holidays. However here in Connecticut and a lot of New England are going to see a green Christmas. October seems to have stolen all of the snow when i got 20 inches here in New Hartford Connecticut. Ever sense that storm we have only gotten a traced to a inch of snow that's now melted in Connecticut.
As we look ahead into the future there is no big threat of a storm. possible storm could come into Connecticut late Tuesday and into Wednesday but its looking to be mostly a rain event. here is the forecast for New york city.

Winter outlook 2011-2012
The coming winter, 2011-2012 is predicted to be very similar to last years winter. Last year in the northeast we saw record snowfall amounts in cities like, New York, Hartford, Boston, and much more. This coming winter is suppose be as wet but not as cold in the north east. What is concerning in that it is suppose to be dry in the texas area. This is only going to make the drought there worse! In the south its suppose to be warmer and dry, in central U.S. its expected to have average temps and precipitation, and in the northwest it could be bad for them as its expected to be cooler than average and ALOT wetter! The winter this year is going to be greatly affected by la nina as the eastern central pacific ocean will be 3-5 degrees Celsius cooler than average. This sets up for more wet weather and cooler temperatures in the northwest.
I personally love snow and i don't mind getting a lot as long as snowblower works, and the roof does not collapse!

Alaska Superstorm
The National Weather Service in Alaska states that an historic hurricane-force storm system is moving into the Bering Sea on Tuesday. The storm, which is forecast to have sustained winds of 80 mph over an area the size of Colorado, is also predicted to produce storm surge effects on the Alaskan coast 8 to 10 feet above normal water levels. The Alaskan city of Nome is in its path.
The lack of the sea ice in the bering sea will allow this storm to cause a greater impact as it has little protection against the waves and surge its going to cause. Its also going to bring blizzard like conditions to westering inland Alaska.
This storm is going to be the worst they have seen in decades! They have not seen a storm like this sense 11-12-1972 storm that was destructive.
Whats going on with all of this crazy weather these days!?

Snow in october??!!
OK well i lost power for 4 or 5 days in this historic snowstorm that struck the northeast last saturday bringing anywhere from a trace to 30 inches in the hills of Mass. I measured a good 20 inches i my hometown New hartford Connecticut, and this was heavy snow!! As many know this historic snow storm broke all records of snow in october and left people in CT powerless for more than a week. This Nor easter
exploded as is flew into NE and produced a very wet and heavy snow that took down trees and power lines throughout the state. CRAZY stuff, right?
Is this a sign of things to come in the next winter months? Well see!

Coming Winter
Last year throughout the nation especially the northeast was just hammered with FEET of snow. Then came summer to be one of the wettest in NE history! With all of the moisture we have gotten rain or snow this past year i believe that this winter is going to be like last winter maybe even worse!! Do you guys agree? or disagree?
Fall
So far the falls been great here in northern Connecticut, seems that we are peeking about now on this saturday the 22nd. Get out and enjoy to today as the east coast feels the beautiful fall-like weather.
Great foliage here however not as nice as it could be as so much rain has abled a fungus to eat away at the leaves to dim the color a bit.
Tropics- nothing in the tropics to worry about atm as the hurricane season winds down.
What are you guys doing this weekend for fall? -Post

Watching Lee and Katia
As of the 11am advisory tropical depression 13 is now tropical storm Lee! this TS is going to bring a lot of rain and wind to New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Lee is moving at a slow 2mph with sustained winds at 40mph. Lee could drop up to 10 inches of rain! Now that amount could cause major flooding. Lee is forecasted to strengthen to a powerful Tropical Storm right before it makes landfall. I will put some maps and tracks of Lee below this article.
As of the 11am Advisory TS Katia is now Hurricane Katia at 75mph sustained winds! Katia is forecasted to become a major hurricane later this weekend. Don't worry for now because Katia is predicted to stay out to sea and away from the US. HOWEVER some of the models are starting to bring her to close to comfort so stay posted to this blog! Do you guys think that Hurricane Katia will hit the US or go out to sea? If it hits the US there is going to be some major issues! For now TS Lee is the biggest concern for the gulf of Mexico! Details on Katia moving WNW 14mph 75mph winds at 991mb in pressure.

Crazy Weather.
The weather has been strage in the US recently! Especially along the east coast. In the same weak there was the magnitude 8.8 earthquake on the east coast that was felt from florida to canada, crazy huh! Then a few days later there was Hurricane Irene. Hurricane irene came up the east coast and caused signifficant damage and power outages to many states. Irene weakened to a Tropical Storm when it hit NYC but still caused horrific damage to NC,VA, NJ, CT,MA, and the worst flooding in VT. The jetstream turned north and opened the door for Irene to move up north. What do you guys think about the crazy weather in all the same weak. Did you get effected by the Hurricane or Earthquake, did you feel it, POST below!!!
Tropics watch in the Gulf.
We have many, many days to monitor Katia far out in the central Atlantic Ocean. It is too early to determine if it will ever affect any land areas.
Closer to home, we have a more immediate concern. Depicted in the graphic below over the Gulf of Mexico is a tropical disturbance with increasingly organized thunderstorm activity. Numerous computer models forecast this system developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm late this week.
At this early juncture, the primary threats appear to be torrential flooding rain and at least some coastal flooding, high surf and rip currents (a vastly underrated killer, by the way). We outline those areas most at risk in our "threat level" graphic below.
The wind threat is initially low, but this could change depending on the exact track and intensity of the system
This tropical system could "loaf and lollygag" (technical term) for several days along or near the Gulf Coast. To get an idea of the forecast uncertainty with this system, click the image below to see the latest forecast tracks from our hurricane models.

The Setup: A Slow-Motion Headache!
Tropical Storm Katia
Tropical Storm Katia as of the 5pm Advisory from the NHC. Katia is suppose the become a hurricane later and has the potential to become a major hurrican by the latter end of the weekend. As of now the forcast models have Katia move WNW and curve out to sea. HOWEVER this track is subject to change to keep checking up on my blog or the NOAA or Weather.gov in the NHC section. What do u guys think landfall in the US or curve out to sea? WE obiously dont need another hurricane after hurrican Irene left its mark NC and north.
